Why do we need veneers?
Are veneers permanent or removable?
What should I know before treatment?

The first thing people notice about you when you talk, is your teeth. Are you always conscious about the way you talk and smile? If you are unsatisfied with the 3S’s of your teeth - size, shape, shade; we are here to help you achieve your dream smile by giving you a sexy smile makeover with veneers!

Let us help you gain back your confidence with your smile. But first, what are veneers and how can they improve our appearance?

Veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment that provides a better and natural-looking smile for you.

They are thin tooth-coloured shells that fit on the front of teeth to improve your teeth’s appearance and prevent them from damage. Veneers can change the size, length, colour, and shape of your teeth.

Veneers are frequently used to treat:

So with all that being said, here is the most important part.
Are you a good candidate for veneers?

Even though veneers can drastically change the way we look and help boost our confidence, not everyone is suitable to get veneers. If you are thinking of getting veneers, you should probably check out the criterias below before you get veneers:

  • You should have good oral hygiene with healthy teeth and gums.
  • There must be adequate enamel for veneers to stay in place as they will be attached to the enamel on your teeth.
  • Your teeth should be straight (or moderately straight). It is to ensure that the veneers are able to attach properly.
  • Do not have the habit of grinding teeth. Grinding your teeth can damage veneers.
WHAT TO EXPECT

Duration: 2 visits

We will assess your teeth and check if you are suitable for veneers. Next, we will prepare the teeth involved. After that, we will then take an impression of your teeth.

This will be sent to our lab for full fabrication of the veneers by our skilled staff. When your veneer is ready, we will fit them to your teeth. Before cementing permanently, we will evaluate the fitting and aesthetic of the veneers to your teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are the most popular type of veneer that is custom-made to fit on your teeth. They are stained-resistant, long-lasting, and they will blend in with your natural teeth to give you a beautiful smile. They can last up to 10 years and they have the toughest veneers material. Our patients usually go for porcelain veneers because of their durability and because they are biocompatible, they will not injure your gum.

Direct Composite Veneers

The process for direct composite veneer is quick and you will take fewer visits to the dentist. They cost less than porcelain veneers and they are easier and quicker to fix if they get damaged; even though composite veneers are usually not as strong as porcelain veneers. However, composite direct veneers require more maintenance and stains easily compared to porcelain veneers. If you are thinking of getting direct composite veneers, you will need routine polishing to maintain their glossiness.

Prefabricated Veneers

Prefabricated veneers are the ideal alternative to porcelain veneers. They can also last up to 10 years. The colour of prefabricated veneers is nicer compared to direct composite veneers and they will not discolour as easily. It is a quick procedure with only 1 visit to the dentist.

However, they are one-size fit all veneers and not custom made like porcelain veneers so it might not be suitable for everyone’s teeth. If you are thinking of getting prefabricated veneers, our dentist will do a quick check up and lay out your options so you can have a better picture of what suits you best.

Veneers FAQ

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth. They provide a long-lasting solution for a variety of cosmetic dental concerns, including:

  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Small-sized teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Discoloration, staining, translucency
What are the types of veneers?

The most popular materials for veneers are porcelain and composite bonding. Composite veneers use a resin that is shaped and bonded to the tooth to improve its appearance. Porcelain veneers, typically crafted in a lab, offer greater resistance to staining than other materials.

Should I choose composite or porcelain veneers?

Consult with our dentist and they will recommend & determine which option is best for you. If only minor changes are needed and your teeth functions well, cosmetic bonding may be suitable. However, if your teeth have spacing issues, are broken, discoloured, or if you clench or grind your teeth, porcelain veneers may be the better choice.

What is the process of getting dental veneers?

Getting a porcelain veneer typically involves several steps. First, you’ll have a consultation with a dentist to discuss your goals and any concerns. During this visit, they may take X-rays or impressions of your teeth and explain how veneers could work for you. Next, the tooth is prepared for the veneer by removing a small amount of tooth structure and taking an impression. Temporary veneers are placed until your next visit, where the final veneer is bonded to your tooth.
For veneers made of composite bonding- a tooth-coloured filling material, the process is usually completed in one visit. The dentist will remove a small amount of tooth structure and bond the composite material directly to your teeth. However, this type of veneer is less durable and more prone to staining than porcelain veneers.

What are the benefits of dental veneers?

Veneers require minimal removal of tooth structure, preserving as much of the natural tooth as possible. They can enhance the appearance of your teeth, and gum tissues respond well to them. The color can be customized, and porcelain veneers, in particular, are resistant to staining.

How long does dental veneers last?

A veneer typically lasts around 5-10 years, though with proper care, it can last much longer. Veneers don’t require special maintenance beyond regular brushing, flossing, and routine visits to the dentist. Scaling every six months and annual check-ups are strongly recommended to help maintain their longevity.

Can I preview my veneers before it being cemented?

Yes you can! We use a digital smile preview which involves taking a photo of the patient’s face and digitally enhancing the appearance of their teeth. This gives the patient a clear idea of the potential aesthetic outcome and helps them decide which smile design is the right choice for them.

Does the process hurt?

During the veneering process, patients are typically numbed, so there should be no severe pain once the numbness takes effect. For smaller cases involving two or four veneers, there is usually little to no discomfort after the numbness wears off. However, for cases involving eight or more veneers, patients may experience some soreness in the gums or jaw, which can generally be relieved with over-the-counter pain medications.

Will I need gum contouring?

In certain veneer cases, gum contouring may be performed to achieve a better cosmetic result. This procedure helps create symmetry and can lengthen short teeth. Most gum contouring procedures cause little to no discomfort during or after treatment. However, in rare cases, surgical gum contouring may be necessary for very short teeth, in which case patients will be referred to a periodontist for the procedure.

What habits should I avoid or stop?

Stop all bad teeth habits immediately, such as nail biting, straw chewing, fork nibbling, opening bags with teeth, pulling on clothing or gloves with teeth, and anything that will put undue stress on the veneers.

What happens if one of my veneers come off?

Try not to panic. Sometimes this happens, although it’s rare. Please try to save the veneer. Please call us and we will try to get you in as soon as possible. Your tooth may be sensitive to cold foods or liquids when the veneer is off.
